The Third Grass-A-Matazz - Amsterdam, 19-21 November 2007
Dutch premiere of "20 To Life, the Life And times Of John Sinclair"
After London, Rome and of course the major cities in the US, it was time for the Dutch premiere in Amsterdam. Grass-A-Matazz presented the premiere November 20th at 7pm at the Melkweg Cinema. The well-received screening was followed by a intimate celebration with the old-school cannabis Celebs; Jack Herer and John Sinclair talked about the film and the cannabis movement today. A blue cloud formed all around us a many Cannabis Cup entries, including John Sinclair's Sativa, went up in smoke!
Grass-A-Matazz @ Cannabis College with Radio Free Amsterdam
The traditional RFA radio shows at the Cannabis Collage had the (traditional) bumpy start, but once going, it kept going for three days.. live! John Sinclair interviewed Jack and Eddy Lapp and there was live music by Los Marijuanos, Heidi Happy and Fifi L’Amour. Cannabis College presented it re-opened show garden. and much more. Opening tokes with Ceres Seeds and JS Sativa and much more! Go to Radio Free Amsterdam online to listen the shows!
Aceyalone Live @ Sugar Factory ::: CANCELED :::
Aceyalone was stuck in LA and on top of that Kiddo Cee became a daddy only hours before the party! Left with only a quarter of our original line-up, we did not want to compromise, and decided to cancel the show. To all judges: Next year we'll be back with a vengeance. Big up to the Amsterdam Hip Hop scene. thank you all, and see you in 2008 at the 21st High Times cannabis Cup in Amsterdam!
Grass-A-Matazz 2007 schedule Ceres Seeds (in collaboration with Radio Free Amsterdam and Self-Hemployed ) hosts the third Cannabis Cup Grass-A-Matazz on November 20th; Sugar Factory, AmsterdamGrass-A-Matazz is an annual Blues, Jazz & Hip Hop event during the week of the Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam.
This year we proudly offer the third edition of a celebration that began in 2005 with 400 people and grew into a unique counter-cultural ball hosting major musical acts, expositions, raffles and auctions, and more. Over 600 people attended the follow-up party in 2006! This year’s bash promises to be bigger and better than ever. The Sugar Factory on the Lijnbaansgracht in Amsterdam will be the 2007 location, where on the 20th of November Grass-A-Matazz will wow the crowds with a talented musical line-up.
Hip hop is the word in our third instalment, with LA masters Aceyalone & Bionik performing material from their brand new album Lightning Strikes. From Amsterdam we present Kiddo Cee & Wen Regal, promoting their hot, controversial hit and (uncensored) video Vieze Meid. The evening promises to entertain, with an ‘open mic’ led by Aceyalone allowing the artists and audience to experience the true energy of live hip-hop.
Our guest of honour is John Sinclair: American poet and musician, one-time manager of the rock band the MC5, founder of the White Panther Party and author of the cult classic Guitar Army. Sinclair became known in the early 70’s after receiving a ten-year prison sentence for giving two marijuana joints to an undercover agent. In 1972 he was released after famous admirers (including John Lennon & Yoko Ono, Stevie Wonder, Allan Ginsberg and others) organized a rally demanding his freedom, attended by 15,000 people. John Lennon even penned the song “John Sinclair” especially for the occasion.
The evening will start with the Dutch premiere of 20 To Life: The Life & Times Of John Sinclair, a film by Steve Gibhardt, at the Melkweg Cinema at 7pm. Doors at the Sugar Factory will open at 9pm, the concert starts at 10.
The Third Grass-A-Matazz promises to be urban history in the making! Don’t miss your chance to experience this unique event, sure to be long-remembered by those lucky enough to secure tickets, as there are only 300 available.
